Sarada Vidayalaya has been at the forefront of educating girls for the last eight decades. To extend its reach, we have been running a hostel for our out-station girls who come from impoverished rural homes to the city to improve their chances. Their parents are unable to pay fees or the cost of boarding and lodging and we depend on the magnanimity of generous minded people to keep the hostel running.
The hostel provides a warm, safe and disciplined atmosphere for girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity for education. They are given nutritious food, a clean and healthy place with adequate adult supervision to help them through to responsible adulthood.
At present, the cost of educating and boarding and lodging each girl is Rs 6000 a month. This is a sizable sum and we appeal to philanthropists to support this cause. It is well-known that in our society, educating a girl is considered a low priority, when in fact it is also well known that that it is of primary importance. The whole society benefits when its women are educated.
